[Carmen]When we reached Lune Rouge, the guards let us pass fairly quickly. I thought they would be a lot more stringent, but I guess they’d been waiting for us. Rock drove slowly through the pack lands. “Damn...” he whispered. “What?” “The earth is telling me something bad happened here recently. I don’t know if spending four days here will be safe for our family.” “Queen Bellamy wouldn’t have called us in if there was a risk. I can’t imagine a werewolf Alpha letting strangers cross their border that easily if there was danger. We have to trust that this won’t be a problem.” Rock parked when we reached the packhouse. He helped me out of the truck and grabbed our bags from the back. I used my magic to see around me enough not to trip or lose him. He stepped aside so I could get the door. A woman stood in the entryway. She approached us. “I’m Cara Petit, the Beta female of Lune Rouge. The guards told me you were on your way up. You’re Rock and Carmen Beaumont, Amy’s guests, right?” “We are,” I replied with a smile. “Rock, you can take your glamour off. Our pack is a safe place for people of all species. We want you to be comfortable here,” Cara said with a smile. I only saw Rock’s glamour a couple of times, because my magic saw through his. It was only apparent to me that he’d taken it off because Cara tensed a little and her smile slightly wavered. With a nod, she beckoned us to follow her. As we followed Cara through the packhouse, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. There was an underlying tension in the air that made my skin prickle with awareness. I glanced over at Rock and saw that he looked just as wary as I felt.It was a tension I was becoming familiar with. This same tension permeated the pack lands after the fight with the hunters, and I felt it in the fae lands after the fight with the demon. It was the tension that comes with realizing an enemy had been so close to you and you had no idea. This place was healing, but it wasn’t there yet. She led us to a guest room. Cara opened the door to the room. In the corner of the room was an enormous bed, similar to the one Rock, and I had in our bedroom. They must have larger guests often if they had beds like this. The rest of the room was nicely put together. I couldn’t see color with my magic, but the outlines of everything looked really pretty. Rock took our bags to the bed and laid them down. Cara stepped in with us. “There’s a bathroom through that door. We’re planning to remodel, but everything is still made for werewolves, not larger species. The shower might not fit your mate easily. Please relax for a while. An omega will come get you when Queen Bellamy is ready to take you to meet Rosie,” Cara said. “Have you seen her?” I asked. Cara nodded. “She’s beautiful. Her skin is smooth and stony and her eyes are pink like rose quartz. Her hair is black and wispy right now, but it will probably get thicker as she gets older.” “It might not. Hair on trolls is a mixed bag. Some don’t even have any,” I explained. “That’s fine, though. She’ll be beautiful to us no matter what.” “You know, I was a little nervous because of how quickly you accepted, but I think maybe I was just being paranoid. The look in your eyes when you talk about her reminds me of the look in Bellamy’s eyes when she talks about her babies. It shouldn’t be long. Freshen up a bit. I’ll see you later.” With that, she left, closing the door behind her. I pulled my magic back in as Rock came over and wrapped his arms around me, holding me close to him. We would see her soon. Well, in a way, we would see her soon. “Let’s unpack. Maybe they’ll be ready for us by the time we’re done.” I nodded, and we got to work. Rock put things in the drawers and closet while I unpacked everything and handed items to him. It was a job that was easier for me without being able to see. I wanted to save all my magic for when I got to meet our daughter for the first time. Once we finished unpacking, I sat down on the bed, feeling a little overwhelmed by emotions. A sense of nervousness and excitement mixed, making me feel like my heart was about to burst out of my chest. Rock sat down beside me, taking my hand in his.“You okay?” he asked, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.I nodded, taking a deep breath. “I’m just... I can’t believe we’re about to meet her. Our daughter. It’s just so surreal.”“I know,” Rock said, leaning in to kiss me. “But we’re going to be amazing parents. And she’s going to be the best half troll half werewolf girl in the world. Though, it has me wondering. You come of age at seventeen, but trolls don’t come of age until fifty. Will she get her wolf at seventeen and her mate at fifty? Will she get both at seventeen? Will she have to wait until fifty for both?”“Don’t worry, Rock. I’m sure her godmothers will be more than happy to look at her and let us know anything they find out about her. No matter what, we’ll be there for her. Plus, it’ll be good to know for our second child,” I told him as I tucked myself under his chin and he wrapped his arms around me. “Already thinking of the future?” “Always. Ever since the moment I met you, all I can think of is our future and everything we have to look forward to,” I replied. “Even if I’m a hideous monster?” I laughed. “You are never a hideous monster to me. All I have ever seen is your heart, and it is the most beautiful thing in the world.” “You are the most beautiful thing in the world, little wolf. I have so much more than I dreamed of because of you. A soft mate who submits to my depraved will, a caring friend who loves all of my other friends, a strong partner who always does what is best for my company, and a gentle mother to my children.” He made me giggle when he said the submit part because of the fake evil tone he used. Rock gave me more than I dreamed of, too. He accepted me when I thought no one ever would. I couldn’t put into words how much I loved and cherished him simply for believing in the goddess and me. As we soaked in our feelings for each other, there was a light knock on the door. I knew it must be the omega Cara had mentioned earlier. Rock went to answer it, and a young werewolf came in. He seemed nervous.“Queen Bellamy is ready for you,” he said, his voice shaking slightly.“Thank you,” Rock replied. “Lead the way.”I followed him across the room, and Rock took my hand before following the omega. The omega was probably scared because of how Rock looked. I was getting used to that being the reaction from some people. When we reached what I assumed was Queen Bellamy’s office, Rock and I entered through the open door. The omega left without another word. I couldn’t smell him anymore. This room smelled like many people, but two scents were the most overpowering and the power of a couple of Alphas pressed against me. I could hear two heartbeats in the office. Queen Bellamy mated with the Alpha of Lune Rouge, Lucien Deveraux. “Mr. and Mrs. Beaumont, please, have a seat,” said a sweet female voice I recognized as Queen Bellamy. She sounded more delicate in person than she did over the phone. All that boldness and strength had altered her voice when coming through the little device. I could imagine few people took her seriously until she had to teach them differently. Learning to dissect things differently made me more observant because I couldn't rely on sight. Rock took me into the room, seated me on a couch, and sat next to me. This was a safe place, so he didn’t feel the need to stand ready. I heard them move and come closer. They sat down nearby. I was still saving my magic for when we met Rose. “I’m Bellamy Deveraux and this is my mate, Alpha Lucien Deveraux. Thank you for coming in on such short notice and in the middle of your honeymoon if what your Alpha told me is correct. You should have said something.” Rock and I chuckled. “Queen Bellamy, there is nothing more important than family. When we heard you had our daughter, we came as quickly as we could,” Rock replied. “The goddess promised us we could have two children, even though I’ll only be able to carry one. Rock and I believe in our Goddess and her promises more than anything else. As soon as you told us about her, we knew she was ours. We can always find time for a romantic getaway if we need it, but meeting our first child will only ever happen once,” I added. “We want to make sure Rose is safe,” Alpha Lucien said in a low voice. “They will bring her as soon as possible and we will let her go back to your room with you.”My grip on Rock’s hand tightened. Alpha Lucien and Queen Bellamy went over all the information they had about Rose and her parents. Rock was listening intently, but my eagerness distracted me. A soft knock sounded on the door and Queen Bellamy got up to answer it. She greeted the person on the other side. Rock and I stood up, and I spread my magic out so I could see all the way to the door. Queen Bellamy let the person on the other side in. It was a brownie. I’d met a few in the fae lands and recognized her as one. Rock told me they were technically related to goblins, but different in a lot of different ways. My eyes were drawn to the little girl she was carrying, though. The woman was using all four of her arms to hold little Rose, so she was facing forward. She was smaller than I thought she would be since her birth father was a mountain troll, but she was still perfect. Rose stopped chattering in baby gibberish and looked up at Rock. Her eyes grew wide, and she reached out her hands. Rock leaned forward and reached out his arm to her, trying not to move too much as not to frighten her. From what we understood, the only trolls Rose had ever seen were the ones who were rejecting her. A tightness grew in my throat. Rock was the troll who never rejected anyone. He had the biggest heart and accepted everyone, even Dolly. Rose reached for Rock’s hand and gripped his fingers as soon as they touched. The brownie moved even closer, letting Rose relax more in her arms. Rock lowered himself to his knees as the brownie moved in. My mate was looking at our daughter with an expression unlike any I’d seen on him in the entire time I’d been able to see using my magic. It was a mix of wonder, awe, and love. He looked at Rose like she was the most important thing in the world to him, and in that moment, she truly was.“Hey there, little one,” Rock said softly, his voice breaking with emotion. “I’m your daddy.”Rose babbled incoherently, completely unafraid of the massive troll before her. Rock’s eyes glistened with tears as he gently stroked her small hand with his thumb.“You’re so beautiful,” I whispered, reaching out to stroke over her little fingers as they tried to wrap around Rock’s fingers. Her skin reminded me of Rock’s skin. It was firm, but also kind of soft. She let go of Rock’s finger and grabbed for mine. She easily wrapped her little hand around my finger. ‘Our pup,’ Blanche whispered inside my head. ‘You accept her already?’‘She’s perfect.’I smiled, and Rose gurgled at me. She babbled some baby gibberish and drooled a little. Aside from her tusks, I could see that she had a few teeth up front. Rock accepted her as the brownie gently handed her off. Rose let go of me in order to reach out for him. He held her close to his chest. Her little head fit perfectly under his chin and she let out a happy sigh. “Thank you,” he said simply. “For bringing her to us. We’ll take good care of her.”“She is the last of my little ones. I can tell you will be fitting parents to her. I can always tell who the good children are,” the brownie replied. “We’re about to serve lunch, but we’ll have them bring that to your room. You need time with your daughter,” Queen Bellamy said. “We’ve seen all we need to. No wolf or troll reacted to Rose like that and she didn’t take to anyone the way she’s taken to you. Bronwyn is the only one who has held Rose without her screaming her head off.” I moved closer to my mate and our daughter. She saw me and leaned over, reaching for me. Rock handed her over to me. She was a lot heavier than I would have thought, but I remembered Rock telling me that Forrest was almost three hundred pounds by the time he was five years old. “That’s my big girl,” I murmured and kissed the top of her head. Rock put his arm around me. I leaned against him. This felt like the most natural thing in the world. “We’ll go spend some time with our daughter. Thank you again,” Rock told Queen Bellamy and Alpha Lucien. Together, we left to go to our room. It was a long and difficult journey, but I was glad we arrived here. I squeezed my baby to me and breathed a deep sigh of relief. “I love you, Rock.” “I love you, too, Carmen.”
