His assistant stood in the office, sweating, holding a contract that needed a signature.
"Boss, please, you need to look at this contract. The recent press is killing us. A lot of our partners are pulling their investments. If this continues, the family business—"
"Where is she?"
The assistant froze.
"Who, boss?"
"The person I told you to find!"
"Boss, I swear I've looked everywhere! I can't find a trace of the madam anywhere! Hotels, train stations, airports… I've checked every place I can think of. I'm out of options! The family is in chaos, I'm being pulled in a million directions!"
James didn't even look at him.
He snatched the car keys from the desk, bolted downstairs, and drove straight to the airport.
He had gotten the details of my new identity from David.
During that time, Chloe sent him several messages.
He deleted them without reading. All he knew was that he had to find me.
Once the system pulled up my flight information, he had his assistant book him on the very next plane.
On the way, Chloe, having gotten no reply, called him directly.
James answered, his voice tight with barely suppressed rage.
"What is it?"
Chloe was taken aback, her voice trembling as she started to cry.
"James, what's wrong? My wound is infected, and Liam is too busy with family matters to help me. You were the only one I could call… Are you busy? If you are, I won't bother you…"
She said she wouldn't bother him, but she made no move to hang up the phone.
