"Why should Michael leave with nothing? You're the one who should leave with nothing!"
Amanda linked her arm through Michael's, lifting her chin to look down at me.
"Michael risks his life every day at work. You just sit at home enjoying the good life because you popped out a kid. If anyone should get out, it's you!"

I looked at her arrogant posture and found it almost funny.
She probably didn't know whose money bought the designer brands she was wearing.
I crossed my arms. "And if I say no?"
"Then let everyone judge! Let's see who really deserves to be kicked out!"
Her voice was loud. Heads poked out from patient rooms all down the hall.
Michael's eyes darted around nervously. He whispered.

"Amanda, keep it down."
"She's the one making a scene!"
Amanda pouted.
"She spends your money, uses your money, does absolutely nothing, and now she wants you to leave with nothing just because you helped an old friend? There is no justice in that!"

I stood there calmly, watching her perform.
The onlookers whispered among themselves, clearly enjoying the drama.
"Spending his money and trying to kick him out?"
"Ridiculous. A woman like that would be on the streets back in my hometown."
"Wait, that's Captain Miller. I saw him on the news. Good man."
Amanda soaked up the comments, a smug smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Michael, however, was getting more anxious.
"Emily, let's go home and talk, okay? This is a hospital..."
I chuckled lightly.
"Looks like we can't reach an agreement. Fine. See you in court. I'm sure the discovery process will be very interesting.
We can let a judge decide who was in the wrong."
"I accept!"
Michael suddenly grabbed my arm.
