Even if our relationship was complicated, I expected Luke Skywalker to be true to his words. When he promised me that he would take care of the woman that was arranged to marry him, I believed him, but it turned out that he was just like me. He couldn’t cancel the engagement anytime.
The sun was going down but we were still in the middle of a tense moment. And as the evening went on, our conversation took a bad turn. It started okay, but things quickly got worse. We said hurtful things to each other and argued.

The room felt small and suffocating. We both knew that our situation couldn't last forever, but we had different ideas about what it meant for us. I struggled to express myself, and my words came out in an angry and frustrated way.
Luke, on the other hand, thought everything was fine the way it was. He didn't want things to get complicated by adding emotions. It hurt to realize that at the end of the day, we were bound to the betrothal agreement.
While we argued about us, the room felt empty and cold, and we knew things could never be the same again. Then, I couldn't help but wonder if it was worth it. Was the temporary happiness we found in our situation worth the pain? Was it time to let go and find something more fulfilling, even if it meant losing a friend, and the greatest man I had ever known?
After our big fight, Luke and I decided to take a break and go back to Pembroke. We needed time to cool off and heal from the hurtful things we said. However, on the way back to the mainland, we hardly spoke to each other.
The tension was thick, and silence filled the air. It was a stark contrast to the lively conversations we used to have during our trips together. We were lost in our own thoughts, trying to process what had happened.
“I’m sorry,” Luke mumbled in a low voice, but it was loud enough for my ears.

“For what? For lying about your engagement to the other woman? I mean, this one is new, Luke! So you should have told me about it! It was shocking that I almost skipped breathing when I read the document!”
“I mean to tell you about it,” he said.
“But you didn’t,” I mumbled.
“I know I am wrong. You can hate for lying, but please know that my intentions are pure, Isabella. I don’t have a plan to hurt you,” he said.

“Whatever,” I said because I wasn’t interested in listening to his lies.
As I tried to ignore him, my eyes darted toward the waves. Previously, when we were on the way to the island, the boat ride was filled with laughter, but now it was too quiet. The crashing waves was like a mirror to what I felt inside.
And when we arrived in Pembroke, my parents were happy to see me again. I have been away for a few days, and it was all because of my feelings for Luke. If only I was so sure about the two of us, then we could have not wasted so much time chasing each other.
“Mom, what’s up?” I asked her because something was clearly bothering her.
“You need to prepare, Isabella. We just got a message that your fiancé is going to visit here soon,” she told me.
“Okay,” I replied without considering that Luke had heard me. “By the way, Luke is here to say his final goodbyes to both of you. He wasn’t able to do so the last time because it was urgent,” I kept on lying.
“Oh dear, is it true, Luke? Are you now ready to lead Lancaster? Congrats, dear. I think we should throw a farewell party to him, Isabella,” Mom suggested.
“But you said that a guest is coming! Do we have enough time for the party?” I inquired.
“Why not? We have reliable staff at home. Luke, you must be tired. Go to your room now and take a rest. I am sure that Isabella had tired you out,” Mom said and then without waiting for me, she led Luke toward the house.
Why was she acting as if Luke was her child and not me? I shook my head in disbelief as I followed both of them. Then, while inside my bedroom, I wondered if Luke had plans to sneak out of his room to see me, but he didn’t.
The party was approaching but days turned into weeks, and we were barely seeing each other. There were times when I would see Dad talking to Luke, and one time I was eavesdropping, I heard that Dad was coaching Luke on how to become an Alpha.
However, as much as I wanted to approach him, my pride stopped me from doing so. I decided to just wait for him because I believed that he would miss me, but time passed, and I couldn’t bear the emptiness without him. I missed him so much, and I decided to swallow my pride.
One evening, I made up my mind to see him and make things right. It was a tough decision because it meant admitting my vulnerability and risking rejection. But the longing in my heart couldn’t be ignored. So, I mustered up the courage to see Luke.
I waited until everyone was probably sleeping and then, I tiptoed toward his door. I was about to knock when it suddenly opened, and there he was, standing tall and proud at the doorway.
“Luke!” I exclaimed in disbelief.
“Come in, Isabella. You don’t want any of the servants to see you standing outside my room,” he cautioned.
So, I followed him inside, but the moment he locked the door, I was shocked at his action. I pushed him away but he wouldn’t budge. “Luke, what do you think you are doing?”
“What took you so long to come here?”
