We were quite close to the said island, but we decided to spend the night in the middle of the sea. Fortunately, there was enough room for the four of us inside the yacht.
It was already eight in the evening, and we had already eaten dinner. The seafood prepared by Nathan was exquisite. I particularly enjoyed the buttered shrimp and the crab soup. Nathan, an omega married to a human, was the son of a billionaire and now the owner of one of the largest companies in Claybourne City.
"Here, drink this. It might help relieve your seasickness. I know how it feels, but over time, I've learned to manage it. Bryce loves escaping his stressful business lifestyle and always wants to be on his beautiful yacht."
It might have been too obvious for me, with my pale skin. I couldn't even look at the vast ocean water for too long. It genuinely gave me the creeps. "I don't have a fear of water, and I can even swim, but I have no idea why I'm so scared of the ocean,” I said and then I realized I was being defensive.
"Maybe you need to dive for a few minutes? Would you like to give it a try in the morning?” he asked.
I declined his horrifying suggestion without hesitation. Nathan had a knack for proposing things that made me look at him as if he were some sort of sadistic. He had an innocent yet playful demeanor.
"Just kidding. You can rest for now. You have a lot to do tomorrow. I hope you will win against Magnus. We've suffered so much because of that greedy bastard! So, I hope you can finally put an end to his evil existence, Isabella.”
"I'll do my best."
The yacht was spacious enough for all of us, but it only had two rooms. That meant I had to share a room with Xavier. I couldn't quite pinpoint why I felt a bit hesitant. Perhaps Luke's words were still lingering in my mind. He warned me about Xavier, but then, Luke had always been possessive.
"I'll sleep on the floor. I'll ask Nathan and Bryce for a spare blanket and pillows. It should be enough. I know it would be uncomfortable for you to sleep beside me. After all, you're already mated,” Xavier suddenly said.
Oh, so he knew? "How did you find out?" I asked, as he sorted out his sleeping arrangements.
"That Luke Skywalker is your mate, right? I can smell his scent on you. Plus, you've been dreaming about the pillars. It only happens when you're already mated with your mate."
Well, it seemed like I had no reason to deny it. But I also had no reason to say it out loud.
"Do you love him that much?" he asked me again.
"Yes, ever since I laid my eyes on him, I've always wanted to spend eternity in his arms. I imagine my life by his side, chasing after him like a devoted partner. Thankfully, he claims me as his own. But it won't be the ending I desire. I have a responsibility that outweighs my love. And what about you?" I asked him.
"Mating sounds wonderful, but it's not always the case for a werewolf. Have you heard about the wanderers?"
"You don't have a mate?" I asked him, unable to believe it because he was good looking and attractive.
He nodded, now lying on the comforter and using his arms as extra pillows. "Yeah, just like my last life. I had hoped to have my mate in the next life, but I'm still unlucky."
I couldn't say it was okay because it wasn't. It felt like both a gift and a curse. Having a loyal mate was a wonderful thing, and not having one felt like a heavy burden in our chests. The only silver lining was that he had the freedom to choose whom he would love.
They knew Luke was my mate, and they knew how much I loved him, but I couldn’t tell them the truth, that I was engaged to be married to someone else. Same with Luke.
A few minutes later, I could hear them snoring gently. When I glanced at Xavier, it seemed he had also fallen asleep. Then, a deep sigh escaped from my lips as I convinced myself to go to sleep as well.
The following day, we bid farewell to the couple. They would stay on standby mode in the ocean while we ventured to find an area where to strike Magnus. This island was uninhabited by humans, as it was home to endangered animal species. We made our way through the dense forest, remaining on guard to avoid any potential attacks from unknown enemies and never exposing our backs.
"Are you tired?" Xavier asked me, even though he was the only one carrying our belongings.
"I should be the one asking you. That bag looks heavy, and we don't want to strain ourselves unevenly."
"I can handle it,” he assured me.
We spent another hour before finally discovering the majestic waterfall. It was just as I had dreamt it. Magnificent and awe-inspiring. We only needed to wait for tonight's full moon.
Then, we set up our tent and prepared everything. We decided to scout the area to secure the perimeter, ensuring that no rogues posed a threat to us. Night fell, and darkness enveloped the surroundings. The sky was clear, and the moon shone brightly.
“We need to leave now,” Xavier said as he gestured that we should be swimming.
Even if I was a little bit scared of the water, I swam through the water with Xavier diligently guiding me through the surroundings, his watchful eyes capturing every change in the environment.
Gradually, I descended deeper into the water. It felt far more serene than the ocean at night. I continued my descent until I reached the very depths of the water.
Following my instincts, I made my way towards an underwater cave and swam inside, eventually emerging into the vastness of the ocean. So the falls met the ocean too?
The thought alone filled me with a sense of fear. I nearly let out my breath and choked on seawater when someone came to my rescue.A gentle hand reached out and pulled me to the surface, allowing me to breathe once again.
It felt like a miracle as I stood on the water's surface. The vastness of the ocean was illuminated by the moon, creating a sparkling spectacle from a distance.
"I've been waiting for you, Isabella," a lovely voice echoed.
I turned around and beheld another white wolf gazing at me with passion in her eyes. It was Selene! She transformed into a stunning woman with flowing white hair and a pair of captivating blue eyes.
Her lips were as pink as a rose, her figure slender, and she radiated a light that rivaled the stars in the sky. She looked so different from the librarian I met back then. She ran towards me, embracing me tightly. Her scent carried the essence of the ocean in the summertime.
"I've missed you! You're so brave for coming here, Isabella! Well, you're both foolish and courageous,” she remarked. “Are you ready to face Magnus?”
