I just laughed when I remembered Luke's reaction earlier. One billion? How could he afford that? Even if he had the money, who would be crazy enough to pay one billion to get back into my life? I just shook my head.
That evening, I visited Daddy again to ask about the man I was going to marry, but he didn’t personally know the man either. He couldn’t even provide a picture. I told Daddy that since the man was rich and apparently a billionaire, I thought maybe he had a social media account.
When I returned to my room, I immediately started searching for this man. I had signed up on all social media platforms to find him, but I couldn’t find even a single photo. I almost threw my phone when I grew tired of searching without any results.
When I looked at the wall clock, I realized it was still early. I thought of visiting Vanessa and asking her to go out. There were still coffee shops open nearby, but when I tried to call her number, it was busy.
I frowned because I remembered Vanessa saying she didn’t have a boyfriend yet. So it was surprising that she had someone to talk to late at night. I waited a few minutes and tried calling again, but it was the same. The line was still busy.
So, I decided to just go to sleep, but I had trouble falling asleep. All the pain came rushing back because I had seen Luke again. I thought maybe it would have been better if he had cheated on me because when I'm angry, I can move on quickly. But no, he hadn’t.
While wondering what to do, my phone suddenly rang. I thought it was Luke calling since he had sent me many text messages that I hadn’t replied to. But when I looked at the caller ID, it was Jimuel who had called. I didn’t really want to answer his call, but I had nothing else to do and couldn’t sleep, so I decided to just answer it.
“Jim, why did you call?” I asked him.
“I don’t know, but I suddenly missed you,” he replied from the other end, and I rolled my eyes at his comment.
“You've always been a flirt. Where are you now?” I asked.
“Right in front of your house. If you're not sleepy, let’s go out for a bit. Coffee?”
“Hmm, sure,” I agreed immediately because, after the incident, I knew I could trust him now. “Just a moment, I need to get dressed,” I told him since I was still in my pajamas.
While I was getting dressed, I could hear Jim singing in his car. I smiled because he actually had a nice voice. After I was dressed, I just sent a chat to Mommy saying I would go out for a while and that I was with Jimuel. She didn’t know him, but I knew she trusted me. Besides, I could take care of myself, and Jimuel knew what I was capable of.
When I stepped out of the house, I felt the chilly breeze and breathed deeply. Christmas was nearing so the air felt different. As I headed to the gate, I noticed that the new bodyguard Daddy had hired was literally like a shadow. I rarely saw him, but I knew he was always nearby.
As I got out of the gate, I immediately saw Jimuel’s car parked not far away. I waved at him, and he drove up to me. Then, he opened the door for me to get in. And of course, I didn’t want him to look like a driver, so I sat next to him.
“It’s good that you decided to call now, Jim. It’s been a while since you last got in touch,” I said to him.
“Sorry, Isabella. I’ve just been busy with work. I've been neglecting our business for a while, so the De Rossi’s are probably happy because I haven't been focusing,” he replied, and I frowned when I heard the name he mentioned.
“De Rossi?” I asked him because I wanted him to elaborate on the De Rossi's.
“Yes. They are our number one competitors,” Jimuel answered.
“Do you know the CEO there?”
“Yes, of course. Even though they are our competitors, there are events where competitors in the industry inevitably meet.”
“What can you say about him?”
“Cunning and unique. That old man is feared in the industry,” Jim added.
“Really? I heard he has a nephew,” I said.
“Ah, I've heard that too but no one really knows the nephew. I know there is one but he's not active in the business world. I heard he likes adventure. Why, are you interested in the De Rossi’s?”
“Not really, you just mentioned their surname earlier, and I’ve heard it several times from Daddy,” I made an excuse.
“Aren’t you hungry? There are still some restaurants open now,” Jimuel said as he drove.
“I'm a bit hungry. I’d like some seafood, but it’s late. What’s good to eat at this time?” I asked him, but instead of answering, he just laughed.
“Is it wrong to eat seafood at night?”
“That’s what Daddy says,” I replied.
“You really are a Daddy’s girl,” Jimuel noted, and I just nodded because it was true.
“Not really, but my Daddy is rarely wrong,” I declared.
“Okay then, your Daddy is the best. I kind of want to meet your Daddy, but I'm scared because of what I did,” he said.
“He doesn’t know. Only Luke knows about what happened,” I told him.
“Where is Luke now?” he asked.
At that moment, I didn’t know whether to tell him the truth or not. But why would I lie to him? “Luke and I have broken up,” I said.
“Really? Why?” Jimuel asked in surprise.
“Because we weren’t meant for each other. Besides, I’m getting married soon,” I told him, surprising him again.
“Getting married? To whom?”
