I asked him to leave but he acted like he didn’t hear me at all. He just freed me from the chain that was made of silver, and pulled me somewhere. From the first floor, we saw that the door was already smashed and destroyed.
I heard him cursed again, but then since my hands were free, I used my remaining strength to create an energy ball made of blue fire. Then, I threw it to the two werewolves on the first floor and they were immediately engulfed by the blue fire.
“You have powers?” he asked in disbelief after witnessing what I did.
“Ask me later, we have to hurry up, Jimuel,” I told him because if we wouldn’t escape on time, the place would turn into our graveyard.
Our situation was bad, and whoever attacked Jimuel’s place, it was someone who wanted me to die for sure. Then, he pulled me down the stairs but we were blocked by three filthy werewolves.
Jimuel took his gun and shoot them straight to their head. With the silver bullet, I assumed they were good as dead because silver would stop their powerful healing ability and it would make them weak.
He kicked the dead bodies away from our path, and then we managed to open the back door to our surprise, we were greeted by several enemies. When I glanced at Jimuel, he was panicking. Thankfully, my strength had returned, and I felt revitalized.
“Save yourself, Isabella. You don’t have to worry about me,” he said, but I shook my head in response.
“No, we are going to be safe, Jim. Trust me,” I assured him and he looked at me in disbelief.
He was probably thinking that what I told him earlier was the truth, that there were good werewolves, and not everyone was a barbarian. While he was panicking, I did my best to fight against the enemies.
From the looks of it, he was amazed of my fighting skills. Then, he chose to divert to attention by taking his sword and used himself as a cover. While he was doing it, I was worried because he was just a human being, and not extra strength against the werewolves.
“I will create an opening, Jim. Where shall we go from here?” I asked him.
“Let us run to the garage,” he shouted and I nodded but then I saw a huge werewolf trying to eat him alive!
Before he would get killed, I moved swiftly to save him, and I pushed the werewolf away from Jimuel. As we ran away, I could see him trying to catch his breath. He acted so brave but against werewolves, he was a nobody. I saw him trying to retrieve something from his pocket, and then he let out a sigh of frustration.
“I lost my phone,” he shouted. “Isabella, you should just leave me here. Run away to your safety. This is my karma for doing all those bad things to you. I know that saying sorry is not enough right now, so I want you to be safe. Leave this place right away!”
He said those words like he was ready to give up his life. I could see that he was slowly getting eaten by his guilt. Regardless of what he did to me, I couldn’t just leave him alone in the mercy of werewolves. So, with my remaining strength, I created a shield for us.
The barrier could withstand the enemies’ strength but it would be temporary. Before they could reach us again, we had to escape. Then, I sensed that there was a tunnel under us. I frowned as I looked at Jimuel who was scared. He was shaking!
“Wait, is there a secret tunnel under us?”
“A tunnel? Yes, there is,” he replied, “but the door to the tunnel was in the weapon room.”
“It doesn’t matter, Jim. Just tell me the secret door,” I said, and then he led me toward the weapon room.
The door wasn’t made with silver so I was confident I would be able to destroy it, and I wasn’t wrong at all. With my remaining strength, I destroyed the door that would led us to the tunnel.
"Why did you create this tunnel?" I asked him.
"I created this tunnel with this type of purpose. I imagine the worst scenario and this is it,” he replied, but then I stumbled when I lost a lot of my energy. “What’s wrong, Isabella?”
“I feel so weak to walk right now, Jim,” I replied, and without hesitation, he lifted me up and carried me while we travelled inside the tunnel.
“I am heavy,” I mumbled.
“I can manage, don’t worry. I believe you now that not all werewolves are bad because you did your best to save me back there. Actually, it wasn’t just my Mom who got killed that day. My girlfriend also died,” he admitted.
As I he kept talking, my heart clenched in pain. I had no idea he suffered so much because of werewolves who had no remorse in hurting humans. Then, I recalled the room where he let me stay for a moment before we were attacked. I remembered there were a lot of arts that were obviously created by a woman.
"That room is an important room for you, right?" I asked him.
"Yeah, that room was where I and Elise would usually hang out. It was filled with her paintings and her things,” he answered.
“So you want to avenge her death?" I asked him, my head still bowed down.
"For her memories, yes. Maybe you are thinking that even though I would be able to do it, it wouldn’t bring her back to life, but that night, I lost the most important person in my life, and ever since that day, I have been suffering.”
Then, after about thirty minutes of walking, we stopped for a moment. Then, we kept going and didn’t stop we reached the end of the tunnel. Finally, I was able to breathe some fresh air, and in the midst of the woods, my energy was slowly coming back.
When I looked around, I was amazed at how vast the forest and the mountain. For someone like me with an instinct attached to nature itself, I was excited. But when I glanced at Jimuel and I couldn’t read his expression, I realized that it must be the place where he lost Elise and his Mom.
As I followed his gaze, I realized that the place probably brought some horrible memories for him. The fact that this place became the graveyard of his lover, it must be painful for him to come here.
But because of me, he had no choice but to revisit the place. I clenched my jaw as I tried to think what to say to him. Even if he didn’t divulge the details of their death, I knew they were killed by rogues. Only rogues wouldn’t hesitate to kill humans.
And it was the same reason why Dad hired Luke Skywalker to guard me all day and night.
“I’m sorry, Jim. I’m sorry you have to come back here,” I apologized.
“It’s alright. I’m also sorry for being rude to you at the coffee shop. I was trying be angry at you because I was attracted by your beauty,” he confessed.
“And you really had to say those awful things to me?”
“What was awful back then, Isabella?”
“That you wanted me in your bed?”
“I still want you in my bed though,” he mumbled and I looked at him in disbelief.
