I slapped his arm when he said he would take me to his bed but he claimed to be just joking. But then, I was confused when he took me to his place on the north side of the pack.
“Why here?” I asked.
“Because you need to change your clothes,” he replied.
“And why should I?”
“Because we are going out for dinner.”
“Just the two of us?”
“I am starving, Isabella, so stop asking questions please.”
“But how can I change my clothes here when this is your place?”
“Don’t worry. I was supposed to give it to a friend, but you can have it for now. I will just get something else for her,” he informed me, but the mere mention of a female friend caused my blood pressure to rise.
“A friend or girlfriend?”
“Now you sound like a jealous wife,” he teased me.
“No, I don’t!” I argued.
“You do,” he said but instead of arguing with him, I just rolled my eyes at him and got out of the car.
His place was modest unlike the mansion he owned in the city. In the pack of Pembroke, Luke Skywalker was just an ordinary werewolf, but then, I realized that I had no idea about his rank.
All I knew about him was his close relationship with the Alpha of Lancaster, and from there, I didn’t question him about his rank. And since Dad hired him as my bodyguard, that would make him trustworthy, or my Dad’s reputation would be ruined.
The dress he let me use was simple but elegant. It wasn’t my style especially how tight it was but I had no choice. I was sweating from training all day and I had to use his bathroom.
“I bet you are feeling comfortable without wearing underwear, Isabella,” he mentioned while driving and I was aghast that he had to mention it.
Yes, he was right. I had no underwear, and his jacket helped to cover my braless breasts, but it was so insensitive of him to mention that to my face. Luke took to me a steakhouse, and I would say that the food there was so good. As a werewolf, I loved meat more than anything else.
“This is so good, Luke,” I moaned with delight when I tried the delicious steak. The sauce was incredible and the meat was tender and perfect for my taste.
“I’m glad you love it, Isabella.”
When I looked at him, I caught him staring at me. Since the first time I saw him, I could feel his domineering aura and he was intimidating as well. “I’m sorry you have to go to so much trouble because of me,” I apologized.
“It’s alright, but I don’t think you will be able to avoid him forever, Isabella. After all, he is still the Alpha of Lancaster.”
“You are right, but I don’t want to avoid him forever. I am just not yet ready to deal with him right now.”
“You should do it as soon as possible,” he suggested.
After dinner, Luke drove me back home, and luckily, Aric’s car was no longer there. When I entered the house, I never encountered anyone. So, I took a deep breath of relief.
“Thank you for everything, Luke,” I said to Luke and he just nodded.
“Anything for you, Isabella. There’s no need to thank me,” he said. “Anyway, I checked the area and it’s safe at the moment.”
“Why are you telling me that?”
“Because I won’t be sleeping here. I have to go somewhere,” he replied.
“To meet your friend?”
“Hmmmm, yes,” he answered but I didn’t like his response.
“Alright, drive safely, Luke.”
As he waved his hands goodbye, I watched him go back to the car, and then he sped away. But when I passed by the living room on the second floor, my eyes widened to see Aric lounging in the sofa.
“Finally, you are home, sweetheart!”
“What are you doing here Aric?”
“Waiting for you, of course,” he answered. “Where have you been, Isabella? Have you eaten your dinner? I asked Vanessa to cook your favorite,” he told me.
“I had dinner with Luke,” I informed him and he glared at me.
“With Luke? Since when did you date him, Isabella?”
“Luke and I aren’t dating, and if you were here for a long time, you should have heard from the servant why he was always with me, right?”
“But why him?”
“If you have questions about his job, Aric, you can go and ask Dad about it,” I said, and then I turned around to go to my room. “By the way, you should leave now.”
Aric looked at me in disbelief that I asked him to leave. His expression was blank and I couldn’t read his face. So, I couldn’t tell if he was mad or not. Then, he stood up and grabbed my wrist without warning.
“Do you like him?” he asked angrily.
I shook my head slightly and replied, “No, of course not! You know Luke better than I do. So stop overthinking that he would like me. Besides, he already got a girlfriend and he was out to meet her right now.”
“And you are jealous that he went to meet another woman, Isabella.”
“Why do you care, Aric? You and I are over,” I reminded him.
“Over? It’s over when I say it’s over, Isabella. Did you really believe that your rejection that night would change my feelings for you? You are mine, Isabella. Only mine,” he claimed as he continued to come closer to me.
“No, you are wrong. I don’t belong to you, or to anyone else, Aric. I am not a property that you can claim to be yours, okay?”
“What’s wrong with you baby? You weren’t like this before,” he complained.
“People change,” I said.
“I don’t think so, Isabella. You changed because of someone. Your feelings changed because of someone, and it was all because of Luke Skywalker, right?”
“Stop dragging his name into this, Aric. I just become friends with him,” I told him.
“You just became friends, and yet you were always together,” he complained.
“Even if it’s the case right now, you have no right to complain anymore. As I have said, you and I are over!”
“No! We are not over!” he shouted and as he came closer to me, my eyes widened in panic because I recalled how he hurt me in the past.
As I trembled in fear, I couldn’t think of a way to get away from him. I was frozen and I couldn’t move. But then, all of a sudden, a strong hand stopped Aric from touching me.
“You heard her, Aric. She’s not yours anymore. She is mine,” Luke declared.
