“I asked you a question, Isabella. Do you like him?”
“And why should I? Just because you saw me with me means I like him, Luke. What kind of mindset is that?” I questioned his opinion about me and to be honest, I was offended by his question.
“I’m sorry if you were offended by my question. To make it up for you, I will be the one to cook for lunch, and you can request any kind of food you want to eat,” he offered.
As he offered to cook something for me, I should feel glad, but at the moment, I couldn’t think about food. I wanted to eat something, and it wasn’t food. I wanted to have him.
What was I thinking? I immediately shook my head to dismiss the erotic thoughts running inside my head because it felt illegal to even think about him and me, together in bed, probably cuddling or kissing.
No way, I should stop!
“What’s wrong? You face becomes red, are you sick?”
“I am good.”
Initially, I thought he was just bluffing but later on, when I went to the kitchen to check, he was really there in front of the stove, and he was busy cooking. While I didn’t expect that it would turn out to be delicious, I was surprised when they tasted heavenly.
After sharing a meal, Luke said he had to go somewhere important which means that I would be alone in his mansion for an hour. Inwardly, I was worried about Aric but my worries were taken away when Aric came and said he was leaving as well.
“Don’t worry, Isabella. The meeting wouldn’t last an hour. I will be back in a jiffy,” he promised.
“Hmmm, okay, but can I go outside while you are not here?” I asked for his permission because I didn’t want him to worry about me as well.
“Where?”
“Just around the corner, I mean, I wouldn’t go too far,” I told him but then his face remained expressionless and I couldn’t read his thoughts either.
“Mmmm, I don’t think it’s a good idea, Isabella. We don’t know yet what Jimuel has been planning to get you. “
“Don’t be paranoid about that guy, Luke. Have you forgotten that we are stronger than him? He is just human!”
“A human with the ability to kill anyone including werewolves,” he said. “Anyway, how about coming with me?”
“But you are going to meet someone important!”
“Our meeting area is a library. Do you love books?” he asked and I immediately nodded because I loved reading books. “Then, just come with me. You may read one of their books while I’ll be in a meeting. Deal?”
“Deal.”
The idea of being in a city library was exciting, and somehow, I found my time with Luke to be not boring at all. As we made the preparations to leave again, I couldn’t stop thinking if like with him would also be exciting.
“You are smiling. Why?” he noticed.
“Oh, nothing.”
Later on, when we reached our destination, I was amazed at the exquisite building, but then I got happier to see the library’s interior. As my eyes enlarged with excitement, Luke held my hand as we walked inside the library.
“Stay close with me, okay?”
“Do you think I have plans to leave this wonderful place, Luke?”
“I am not sure, Isabella, but knowing you, you might have a different plan inside your head. “
“I will just read books,” I promised.
“Good,” he said, then he pointed where he would be sitting to wait for the person he was going to meet.
I just nodded my head and went around to search for a book to read. It had been a long since I visited a public library, and I was glad when Luke offered to bring me here.
I was searching for a title when a middle-aged woman approached me with a smile. She appeared suspicious to me because why would she approach a stranger like me even if we were on the same isle.
“Werewolf,” she whispered, and I immediately turned around to see if just misheard it.
Luke warned me to be extra careful in a public place shared by humans and wolves because there were humans who hated the very existence of werewolves. There were humans who grouped themselves into fighters, and their goal was to extinguish every wolf.
“Excuse me?” I asked and she just smiled.
“Don’t panic, I am not an enemy. By the way, you can call me Selene. What about yours?” she asked in a friendly manner.
As she tried to be friendly, I wondered if I could trust her. Besides, Luke warned me to be wary of anyone in the library except for him. As I studied Selene, I couldn’t tell if she was a wolf or a human. Her scent was unusual and different.
“Relax, young lady. I am not here to harm you. By the way, I love the color of your eyes, it seemed magical at the moment. So, how are coping up, darling? That hair will soon change into something more beautiful,” she added, and my jaw tightened as I looked at her with fear in my eyes.
I knew she could smell my fear when she smirked arrogantly. But why I couldn’t tell if she was human or not? What did she do?
“You need to calm down, my dear. Your eyes are showing you are not one of them. It’s dangerous to let the hunters know about your identity.”
When she warned me like Luke used to do, I was convinced she wasn’t an enemy but more of a friend. Or maybe, I was wrong. But then, there’s no harm in trying to be friendly with her especially when she already knows my true identity.
“How did you know I am a wolf?” I asked and she just smiled while showing a book title in front of me.
“I can sense the soul of the Moon Goddess’ daughter in you, my dear. You are special, are you not?”
“W-what did you say? I don’t know. I am not sure,” I stuttered when I replied.
“My mother used to have the same hair color and eye color as you, so I bet you are also special like her,” she said.
“No, about the daughter of the Moon Goddess, what did you mean by that? And how can I trust you?”
“I know I may appear suspicious to you and you have all the reason to be anxious just like how my Mom used to hide from everyone who tried to harm us,” she informed me and there was a hint of sadness in her eyes when she said those words especially when she mentioned about her Mom.
Then, she took her wallet and showed me a picture of herself and a woman with the same features as I have at the moment. “Come with me. I will show you what you should know.”
I was hesitant to leave with her so I turned around to check on Luke. He was still there at the table, waiting for someone. I was about to wave my hand at him when a tall man arrived and approached him.
“Don’t worry, we are not going outside this library. I just have to show you something,” she said, and I nodded.
As we walked passed through the shelves of books, I was both excited and terrified. Then, she stopped walking at the end of the corner. She pulled out a book, and my eyes widened in shock to know that there was a secret door behind the plain wall.
“If your mother is special as you claimed her to be, then are you special too?”
“No, I am not. I am just an ordinary wolf who became motherless when they captured her,” she replied as we entered the secret door, and then I realized that what I did was dangerous.
What if she wouldn’t let me live? Luke would be worried, and he had no idea where I was!
“Relax. I am not your enemy,” she said as if she was able to read my thoughts. “The Moon Goddess has a daughter, and her soul would reincarnate from time to time.”
“Wait, hold on. If you are saying that her soul would reincarnate from time to time, then, that means I may have some memories about your Mother, right? Or is there someone else like me in the generation?”
“No, there’s only you. No one will recognize you right away except for me because of my Mom.”
“Tell me more about it, Selene,” I implored as we descended to the depths of the library, and then I couldn’t hide my shock when we entered a magical room.
“Welcome home, Isabella.”
