Before going to the powder, I wanted to inform Luke but he wasn’t back in the table yet, and as I looked around, I couldn’t find him. Inwardly, I was pissed. He invited me to the party, and yet, he dared to be with someone else and totally forgot that I was his date for the night!
I waited for a couple of minutes before leaving the table but as I felt several eyes to be looking or checking on me, I felt like the place was suffocating. I needed to go outside, so instead of heading to the powder, I went to the garden instead.
The landscape was beautiful, and there were several lighting features on the vines of different plants. I was admiring the garden while enjoying the fresh air when I felt an unfamiliar beating inside of me. When I looked up, I realized that it was a full moon, so I immediately hugged myself as I shrieked in horror. What if I would transform into a wolf right now? I would put Luke and my pack in a dangerous situation!
But then, there was something different, and I smelled a significantly familiar scent of mint. Initially, I thought it was Jimuel but it was different from the fragrance he had on his body because the mint I was sniffing at the moment smelled sweet and calm.
I tried to locate where the scent came from and my wolf was excited because I assumed it was my new mate, but the thought of finding my mate smashed in an instant.
From my location, I saw Luke kissing a young woman as if they couldn’t stop touching each other, and as I watched them, I was suffering from a sharp pang in my heart. But why? He wasn’t my mate so I shouldn’t care at all, but why?
Suddenly, my tears came like a ricochet and I put my palm on my chest while sobbing silently. At that moment, I was brokenhearted to see Luke kissing another woman.
Before I messed up everything, I turned my back and ran away as fast as I could. My eyes were blurry from tears I couldn’t control from coming out then I whimpered at the nearest tree. I shook my head while trying to ease the pain but it pained me a lot to witness him kissing Jimuel’s sister.
As if nothing happened, I returned to the function hall and sat there like a good girl. I waited for him to return and a few minutes later, he came to me with a scowl on his face.
“Where have you been?” he asked and there was a hint of anger in his voice.
For a moment, I was speechless and I couldn’t even look into his eyes. I was too guilty to mutter a single word. But when he came closer, I couldn’t stop myself from going to him, regardless if I would be judged later on. Then, without hesitation, I hugged him.
“I’m sorry if I made you worry. I left alone while you were busy dealing with the mayor’s daughter, so I went outside to have some fresh air,” I told him and his expressions told me a million things.
“You were at the garden?” he asked. Then, he let out a sigh before nodding his head. “I understand why you had to do that, but you should be careful, Isabella. It’s full moon tonight so it’s a little risky on your part to bask in the sunlight. Have you eaten? You must be hungry!”
“Not yet. Jimuel accompanied me to the chocolate fondue earlier but that’s all. I am starving if you must know.”
“I’m sorry to keep you waiting. Let’s go. Let’s get something to eat,” he said as he held my hand, but I wished he didn’t.
Because at the moment, I felt special especially when all eyes were on us as if he was an important figure in the party as well. So I was confused. “Why did they invite you here?”
“Because the mayor’s daughter wants me to be here,” he replied.
“Why? Is it because she likes you?”
“Very much, Isabella. She wanted me to become her husband,” he said.
“And what did you say to her?”
“I said no. I told her I already have a girlfriend.”
“Oh, you do? Are you serious?” I asked in disbelief because the information was new and my brain refused to process it at the moment.
“Yes. I told her that you are my girlfriend,” he dropped the bomb and I arched my brows in response.
“But she’s human, Luke. Does she know what we become during a full moon?”
“Nope. She doesn’t know about werewolves. Or if she learned about them, she must have read it from books, but to humans, we don’t exist, Isabella. We are just fiction or part of the legends to them.”
“But why did you tell her that I am your girlfriend?”
“Because you are going to be mine soon,” he declared.
“Why do you think so? You should be aware that I don’t want to be in a relationship in the near future. You were there at my engagement party, Luke. I am sure you witnessed how I rejected my mate, Aric Stormheart.”
“Yes, I was there, and it was the happiest moment of my life, Isabella. Can you imagine how I felt at that time? The woman I wanted to spend my life with rejected her mate and his wedding proposal! You are aware that everything happens for a reason, and I believe I got lucky when you did it.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I have always wanted you, Isabella, but it was Aric who had you first. I mean, I was just waiting for the right time, and now I have it.”
I smirked at his declaration because I believed that he had gone insane. Did he really think I would date someone who knew Aric Stormheart? No way. “You know what, you should feel guilty for thinking that way. Imagine, you are friends with him, and then you secretly coveted his girlfriend,” I told him and he just chuckled.
“As I have said, things happen for a reason, Isabella.”
“I know but are you aware that he is trying to win me back?”
“Why? Are you planning to take him back, Isabella?” he asked and I was left speechless again.
