I had no idea why Luke decided to do something that would upset my ex-fiancé. Once Aric stormed to the door angrily, he just looked at me as if nothing had occurred. I frowned at him because he didn’t show any sign of remorse.
“Why did you have to do that?” I asked in confusion.
“Did what, Isabella? Oh, the kiss on your hand? Just forget it, it’s not a big deal,” he claimed.

“Not a big deal? What do you mean by that? Aric was my ex-fiance,” I reminded him.
“There’s the word, Isabella. He is your ex, so he has no business coming here,” he told me.
“I get your point, Luke, but still, you didn’t have to do it,” I informed him,
“It’s you who don’t understand, Madame. I’ll do whatever I can to make you comfortable and his presence made you uncomfortable earlier, so I had to do it,” he explained.
As I listened to his explanation, I realized that there’s no point in stating my opinion because he wouldn’t listen no matter what. So, I just looked at him for a few seconds before darting my gaze toward the food container that Aric had brought earlier.
“Give me those,” I ordered, and even if he wouldn’t like it, he had no choice but to obey my command.

But then, instead of bringing the food containers to me, he helped me up instead, and assisted me toward the coffee table by the window. I sighed in disbelief that Luke Skywalker was stubborn and so opinionated. He was also dominant because he didn’t care if I was above him in terms of ranks.
As soon as I was seated, I opened one of the food containers and I was drooling upon seeing the spicy chicken wings inside. Since my Mom was allergic to chicken, we couldn’t have chicken anytime we wanted. In fact, there’s no stock in the fridge. If we craved for chicken, then we have to order for delivery or go to a restaurant that served chicken.
“Sit down, Luke. Don’t you want some chicken?”
“No, thank you,” he said, and I raised my brow in response.

Anyway, since he didn’t want to eat with me, I decided to let him be. I took a piece and started eating. The sauce was so spicy but I didn’t care. I was so focused on the tender meat. Besides, Aric ordered the chicken from our favorite restaurant, and it had been a long time since I was able to have their chicken. But then, I stopped munching the chicken when I heard him chuckling as he watched me eat.
“What’s wrong, Luke?”
“You eat like a child, Isabella. Look at the mess on the table,” he complained.
As he complained at the way I ate, I could feel my face turning red. Except for Aric, I have never been this close to any men. In Pembroke, I was forbidden to befriend a man unless he’s going to be my husband.
“There’s a servant who can come and clean my mess, Luke,” I replied sassily but the moment I realized the meaning of my words, I was ashamed.
“What else can I say? You must have been raised that way,” he mumbled but regardless of how he said those words, I could like he was insulting me. Then, he shook his head as if in disbelief that the Alpha’s daughter was a brat. “Enjoy your food then,” he said as if he was trying to dismiss me.
Why did he have to sound so rude and impertinent?
I was glaring at him for a few seconds before he caught me, and he immediately frowned. As he furrowed his brows while looking at my direction, I arched my brows in response.
“Do you have something else to say to me, Luke?” I asked him because I couldn’t keep on overthinking while trying to read his mind.
“Hmmm, are you free tonight?”
“No, I am expensive. Always expensive, Luke Skywalker,” I replied but he didn’t understand my sense of humor, or maybe, I was lacking.
“I am being serious, Isabella. Are you free tonight?”
“Why?”
“I need a date tonight, I mean not a real date but something for a show. Are you game?”
“Seriously, Luke? Do you think you have the right to take me on a date?”
“Why not?”
“You are just a bodyguard! Someone on my Dad’s payroll!”
“Ah, so you assumed I am poor, right?”
“Because you’re poor,” I replied confidently. “Otherwise, why would you take the job?”
“Because I want to protect you,” he told me, and for a moment, I was taken aback.
Did he really have to say that? “Protect me? From who?”
“From the likes of Aric Stormheart,” he answered.
“Do you hate him too?”
“I hate everyone who makes you uncomfortable and sad,” he told me.
“Alright, enough of this conversation. What time shall we leave the house?”
“Seven. I already asked your Dad for permission,” he informed me.
“And he said yes?”
He nodded.
Goodness, I didn’t want to believe it! When he was so strict about meeting guys or going to places without him, how did Luke convince him? So, for a moment, I wondered if Luke had used a magic trick to win Dad’s favor.
“I am still injured,” I mumbled.
“You’re a wolf, Isabella. We heal faster than humans,” he reminded me. “Anyway, I will be outside. Just scream if you need help.”
As Luke was walking toward the door, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of power he possessed to control me. I couldn’t be myself whenever he was around. I would usually stammer and couldn’t speak my mind!
Shaking my head to dismiss the thoughts involving Luke Skywalker, I decided to focus on the food in front of me. I kept on munching until my stomach was so full. Afterward, I drank some water and went to lie down in bed.
I felt like a pig doing that but my body felt heavier after I stuffed it with lots of chicken. For five minutes, I struggled to keep my eyes open but then, I couldn’t do it anymore.
I felt drowsy so I had to close my eyes, and the next time I opened them, it was already evening. Although the lights were on, I could see the dark sky from the window. It was a moonlit night.
I just got up and on my way to the bathroom when Luke entered in a suit. He looked so great in a tailored suit, but then he immediately frowned upon noticing that I wasn’t ready yet.
“You just woke up?” he asked in disbelief.
“Yeah, that’s right,” I replied.
“Then, a quick shower will do, Isabella. Do you need help to do that?”
“I am not invalid, Luke. Just wait outside. I will be there in thirty minutes,” O told him.
“Twenty-minutes.”
I didn’t respond and just went on to the bathroom, but then, throughout the time I was inside the bathroom, I couldn’t stop myself from hurrying because I didn’t want to be irritated.
When did I start considering his feelings?
In less than ten minutes, I finished taking a bath. But I would admit it was struggling to finish dressing and styling up in twenty minutes, so instead of showing up in thirty minutes, I was late for another ten minutes.
As expected, he was frowning.
“I can just stay at home if you’re pissed,” I told him and he sighed in response.
“Let’s go.”
After a long drive, we arrived at our destination, and the moment we went inside, my jaw dropped at the elegance of the place. Everything screamed for luxury so automatically I glanced at my companion.
He didn’t look as if he didn’t belong in a luxurious place. He kept walking with confidence as if he owned the place. Then, he held my hand and gave me a reassuring smile.
“Let’s enjoy the night, Isabella,” he whispered and his voice sent shivers down my spine.
