Brynn's POV
Ezra Hunter cried uncontrollably at the news about his daughter. I couldn't do much to comfort him. What can one say to a man who has lost one son, and may lose his remaining child?
"Ezra, can I call you grandfather? Or just Ezra?"
"Call me Bunicol. It's Romani for Grandpa."
"Bunicol, perhaps there is something we can do. Aine, what about the Wizards? Can they somehow reverse this?" I want to make sure we have explored all the options. No matter what my Aunt Stefanie may have done, no parent should bury two children.
"I wish it was that simple. When a Red Witch makes an exchange for a human soul, that soul becomes the sole property of the Witch. It is theirs to do with as they please. Usually, they use it to prolong their lives." Aine explained to us.
"But isn't the exchange null and void if the human that sold their soul can no longer use the magic they were given? I doubt the Red Witch ever told Stefanie that if she comes up against the wrong witch, her witch magic disappears! Witches must honor their agreements, right?" Aine's eyes lit up in understanding and the next thing I knew, Arlen grabbed me and kissed me lustily right there in front of everyone.
"You have no idea how turned on I am right now!" He whispered naughtily.
"Hello! Fae hearing over here!!" I had forgotten Emmett, one of the Quads, was still in the room.
"Arlen, your Queen is right. If the Red Witch did not divulge that Stefanie's magic disappears when she crosses paths with certain witches, we may be able to reverse the agreement! We won't even need Stefanie's consent to do it. Luca must get ALL of Stefanie's magic, or he won't be able to use it! We must act quickly!" Aine urged us.
"Who is the Red Witch?" Arlen asked Ezra.
"I never knew her name, but she is the only one in New England. She shouldn't be too hard to find. Like Luca, I too have the power of invisibility. If I have to go back to Boston and spy on my b***h wife, I'll do it." Ezra told him.
"No Ezra. It is best she and the Lombardos believe you are dead! Emmett here also has the power of invisibility. He should be able to find out." Aine assured him.
"According to the chronicles, there is only one Red Witch registered in Massachusetts, and she lives only thirty minutes from Boston. Her name is Miranda James. And get this...she lives in Salem." Jason read the information on his phone to all of us.
"Salem is a hot spot of witch covens." Aine informed us.
"So what do we do? Politely ask this witch if she was honest in her dealings with my daughter?" Ezra asked Aine. Arlen ran out to grab George and Rafael. Ezra attempted to stand up, but I helped him sit back down.
"Take it easy, bunicol. You need your strength." I smiled at my grandfather, in awe of how much he looked like Dad. I really wish I could have known this man as I grew up and after the tragedy with my parents.
"Brynn, I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you. Especially when Jordan and your mother died. I couldn't take the risk Sheri would follow me and find out who you are!" Ezra said, his eyes brimming with tears.
"I know. I saw everything in my dream and saw you talking to Dad. I know why you did what you did. You saved us all back then, and you are going to help save us once again." The anger I held towards Ezra for so long is gone. If he hadn't made the sacrifice he did, who knows how much damage his wife and daughter would have brought upon my parents and my own life!
"I knew this was going to be the life for you, Brynn. It was told to me many years ago." Ezra smiled at me knowingly.
"Well, isn't that interesting! Years ago, a Seer told us Brynn here would save us from some Witch Wolf thing that is hellbent on killing all of us!" Arlen facepalmed, still not used to Rafael's quips.
"Rafael, you have such a flair for dramatics. This is my grandfather, Ezra Hunter. Ezra, this is the Wizard Chief George and his friend Rafael." I made the introductions.
"Gypsy, are you?" Nothing got past Rafael. Ezra nodded in confirmation.
"George, what do you know about Red Witches?" Arlen asked him.
"They are indirectly related to demons and dabble in fire spells primarily. Their powers are strong, but in terms of battle, a Red Witch isn't of much use. You can kill them relatively easily!" George explained.
"Brynn's aunt, Stefanie, sold her human soul to a certain Red Witch named Miranda James in exchange to become a witch. Luca Lombardo and the aunt have become romantically involved, if one can call it that, but he is draining Stefanie's magic for himself. Have you seen anything like this?" Arlen asked George.
"Yes, though I am not surprised. Luca is of Banker blood. Desdemona was a very strong witch, and Sophia even more so."
"So we believe that the Red Witch omitted from Stefanie how weak the magic is. Will that be enough to reverse the spell?" I asked George.
"Unfortunately, no. Because every human who becomes a witch and makes these exchanges of magic for their soul knows there are
risks. But there is something I can do. I can cast my own spell to reverse the spell of the Red Witch, but I need her here. And I need something of Stefanie's to make sure it's done right."
"I'm her father. Will my blood work?"
"Most certainly. But we still need to summon the witch to be here. And if she's anything like most Red Witches I know..."
"She's going to come in here madder than all hell!" Rafael finished for him.
"So let's be ready for her. Everyone brace yourselves!" Arlen, myself, Ezra and the wizards each spaced out to form a pentagon. Once George had the blood sample from Ezra, he and Rafael began their spell. It took about five minutes, but immediately an enchanting blonde with bright blue eyes appeared in the center of our formation. She immediately held out her hands, but I used my time freezing to stop her.
"Can you hear me, Miranda?" She grunted in frustration. "Listen carefully. We do not wish to harm you. But we need your help. If I stop my magic, do I have your promise you will not use yours? Make one sound for yes, two sounds for no." She complied with a yes and I unfroze her.
"Just who in the hell are you people?! How dare you summon me here!!" Miranda whipped around at all of us, her bright eyes absolutely wild.
"I am King Arlen, the Fae King." Miranda immediately went to her knees to beg.
"Please don't kill me!! I told him NO! You understand me!!! NO!!!" Miranda sobbed out.
"Young lady, please relax. We do not wish to harm you. Are you talking about Luca Lombardo?" She nodded frantically.
"I do not wish to be involved in wars and politics. I don't give a damn, you understand?! I just want to practice my magic and live my life in peace!!"
"And you shall, dear girl. But we have a situation, and we need your help. A human by the name of Stefanie Hunter sold her soul to you three years ago." George told her.
"Yes, I remember." Miranda confirmed.
"Luca Lombardo and her have become involved." Miranda gasped in horror.
"I TOLD HER NOT TO GET INVOLVED ROMANTICALLY WITH OTHER WITCHES!!" Miranda pounded her fists on the ground.
"My magic is strong, but very fragile. I told Stefanie all of this before she made her decision. You have to stop her, he will kill her once he's done!" Miranda frantically told us.
"There is a spell we can do to stop him, Miranda, but we need your help as the witch who gave her that magic. Are you willing to help us?" Miranda recoiled back.
"You are asking me to betray my kind. You are asking me to defy a witch currently trying to raise a war. It will put a target right on my back!!"
"Yet you defied Lombardo when he came to you trying to get you to join his ranks. And you are still alive." George stated, but I didn't miss Miranda looking down in shame. I got down on her level.
"He threatened you, didn't he?" I coaxed out of her.
"Not just threatened. To get him out of my home and my life, I had to give him something else. And I've had nightmares ever since!" She whispered, tears running down her face. I knew what she meant.
"So you know why we are so desperate to stop him?" I said.
"Miranda, I can offer you sanctuary here if you help us. Please help us." Arlen begged her.
Miranda looked up at us, wiping the tears from her face. "If I do this, I want one thing. I want to be there when you end him!"
I smiled at her and took her hand. "Absolutely." She, George and Rafael joined hands. With Ezra's blood sample, they began to chant. We all watched as a bright red triangle appeared above their heads and dissipated.
"It is finished. Miranda?"
"Her soul has left me. I felt it with that last chant." Miranda confirmed to us.
"Miranda, are there any other witches who have refused Luca Lombardo?" Arlen asked her.
"I only know of a few. He made all their lives hell for their refusals. And that's not including those who he forced to join anyway."
"Later, I want their names. They may need sanctuary too. Ezra, I have sent three other Faes to watch your daughter closely. Once Luca realizes she is a human again, he will have no use for her." Arlen told him. He literally thinks of everything. My grandfather's eyes lit up in relief.
"Bunicol, as you have heard, Luca Lombardo and many Witch Covens are preparing to attack us. He recruits new witches every day. We have to stop him before he gets to me and my cousin Jade, who is a Faewolf." Ezra sharply looked up at me.
"What?? A Faewolf!?"
"My mother has a living sister whose daughter Jade was made into a Faewolf. She has an array of powers. If Luca gets his hands on us, that would be bad enough. But he isn't the only one we need to worry about. My other grandfather, Marshall Sherman, is a man who procures women to the supernatural for s*x for money! And if HE finds out that Jade and I exist and have these powers..."
"My God! Your other grandfather is Marshall Sherman?!" Ezra suddenly sat up in the bed, the fight coming back to him.
"You know him?"
"Not personally, but his name is well known among the Gypsies. The man is ruthless. He takes joy in his choice of career and the power it gives him. I have helped a few of his victims escape his wrath young Romani girls who came here with pennies to their names and got mixed up with him!"
"So you can get us in touch with him?" Arlen asked. The wheels were spinning in my man's eyes. He was coming up with a plan.
"I know someone who can." Ezra confirmed.
"We have to get Marshall out of the way, preferably before the Lombardo's find him and use his supernatural resources to lay siege to Dreake and get to the girls." Arlen said, the resolve in his voice clear.
"What do you suggest?"
"Tell him we have a customer who is in need of a woman."
