Mom ranted and raved, demanding I forgive Liam.
She eventually realized I was just as stubborn and stormed out.
I spent two days wallowing. Liam didn't come back.

I went offline, blocking anything remotely related to him.
I lay at home like a potted plant.
Monday, I went back to work as usual.
A colleague immediately asked about wedding favors.
"Sorry, the engagement's off. Maybe coffee's on me at lunch?"
She looked mortified,

"Oh! God, I'm sorry, I didn't know!"
"Are... are you okay?"
I nodded, forcing a smile,
"It's fine. I'm good."

I turned to my computer, preparing for the morning meeting.
At lunch, I overheard whispers in the break room,
"What happened with Sophie’s wedding?"
"Her fiancé was hot and loaded... did he cheat?"
"Shh! Don't say that! Remember that downpour? We were stranded. He showed up in that insane car, got soaked running to hold an umbrella over her. They looked crazy in love. Don't spread crap."
"So then why? Did she cheat?"
"Stop it! You know Sophie! We’ve worked with her for years! She has a cool head and warm heart. She’s solid."
I didn't stick around to hear more.
I took my coffee back to my desk and kept working on the report.
My phone buzzed twice.
It was Mom again.
[Have you unblocked Liam yet?]
[Grow up! Stop blocking people every time you fight! Talk it out!]
I read her messages blankly.
My mind felt numb.
I didn't think anything.
When I got aware of what I was doing, I had already blocked my Mom.
